September 12-17: new Arctic shelf development technologies and the Arctic Islands clean-up
The Russian Federation government still tries to attract investors to the Arctic projects. However, unfavorable economic environment and sanctions still interfere with the plan. New technologies and modern equipment are needed for independent Arctic shelf development. The new “Zvezda” ship-building cluster that is currently being built is to provide them. The Arctic Islands industrial waste clean-up is one of the major fields of concern of the Russian Federation’s Arctic Policy. The Russian Federation Northern Fleet military ecologists are responsible for the program. They disposed half as much waste than the previous year. Their progress was noted at a University of the Arctic congress held in St. Petersburg.
