Rosneft and Gazprom plan on conducting seismic survey in Barents and Kara Seas despite unfavorable economic environment. Oil-and-gas development in the Arctic is seen as the greatest threat to the local environment. Regulating authorities detected critical level of pollution in the better part of the Arctic. The Arctic industrialization advocates claim all the development projects to be implemented in the region undergo strict environmental audit nonetheless. Development projects are not the only threat to the Arctic environment, however. Toxic waste left since the Cold War is an even bigger one.
