Chukotka will be the first subject of Russia to officially light the flame of the Paralympic Games in Sochi. The Paralympic Torch Relay will start on February 26 from the easternmost point of Eurasia: Cape Dezhnev.
The flame of the Paralympics will also be lit in Anadyr, the capital of Chukotka. It will be carried around the cultural and historical sights of the city by 30 torchbearers.
The Paralympic Relay will encompass a total of 45 Russian cities, touching all eight of the country’s federal okrugs. In addition to this, one stage of the relay will take place in the birthplace of the Paralympics: in the British city of Stoke Mandeville. In total, more than 1500 torchbearers and 4000 volunteers will take part in the Paralympic Torch Relay.
The relay will come to a close with the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, on March 7, 2014 at Fisht Stadium in Sochi.
