Tourist inflow in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region has grown by 20% this year.
During the first 6 months over 50,000 people have visited the region, the regional Department for Youth Policy and Tourism press-center reports.
According to the department, people the most popular reason of travelling to the region is business. Most visitors take part in various regional, national and international events.
A total of 36 tourist routes on the Yamal peninsula have been developed by accredited tour operators. The variety of tourist natural zones differs here from the taiga to the Arctic tundra. “Most programs relate to ethnographic and event tourism, mountain skiing, rafting down mountain rivers,” the department added.
On the whole, there are 1233 registered tourist facilities and 89 hotels on the Yamal peninsula.
